Be embraced by the beauty and energy of Maui in our award-winning, 1910 restored historic compound. Lumeria Maui is a stunning six-acre property on the North shore of Maui comprised of five historic lodge-style buildings connected by a continuous, covered lanai (porch). Featuring 24 individually appointed guest rooms and suites with ocean, island and mountain views. The historic building is surrounded by indigenous tropical and edible organic gardens, stunning communal areas and meditation gardens, and a saltwater pool and Jacuzzi.

In order to reside on our property and experience the beauty and serenity of Lumeria Maui, one must enroll and participate in one of our educational classes and programs. Overnight accommodations are available only to guests that participate in one of our classes or educational programs. Please see our daily class schedule and our retreat listings for further information.

Lumeria Maui is the perfect setting for individuals to connect with nature and indulge in daily classes and programs in health and wellness, yoga, meditation, nutrition, personal growth, fitness, sports and cultural experiences. Our private gated compound is also the perfect location for group retreats; our safe and tranquil environment supports retreat leaders in facilitating profound, fun and inspiring journeys for retreat participants.

Designed by Honolulu architect H.R. Kerr, our property holds its own unique heritage: The original Fred C. Baldwin Memorial Home was built in 1910 by the Baldwin sugar cane family. Originally designed to house aging plantation managers and laborers who had dedicated much of their lives to work the cane fields, the property and buildings have been used for a range of purposes since the early 1900’s.  At the beginning of World War II, it was commissioned by the military for housing. By the 1950s and 1960s the site was repurposed again as additional dormitory housing for the nearby Maunaolu Women’s College, and most recently, it was used as a dormitory for Maui Land and Pineapple workers.

Inspired by the history and the rare courtyard design, designer Xorin Balbes fell instantly in love with the authentic feeling of the property, its location on the island and the remarkable buildings it possessed. Balbes felt it would be the perfect setting for an educational yoga retreat center, and embarked on an extensive renovation and rehabilitation. Today, the property is listed in The National Registry of Historic Places and is one of the largest historic renovations on the island of Maui. By honoring the past while implementing innovative designs, Lumeria Maui was born as the most beautiful boutique retreat on all of the Hawaiian islands.

Lumeria Maui is currently owned by MRC Partners, LLC and managed by Filament Hospitality Group.
