Architectural History

This historic home was built circa 1825 by Butler Stonestreet, a wheelwright who also had a blacksmith shop on the adjacent lot. The nine-over-six wood sash windows and American bond brick chimney are evidence of this early construction. In the late nineteenth century the two-story porch with a jig saw-sawn balustrade and C-scroll brackets was added. In the early days of telephone service in the town, a room in the home served as a phone office while the rest of the house was a family’s private residence. By the 1980s, the house was in need of restoration. It was purchased by a renowned local designer and substantially upgraded. An addition for a new kitchen and two new bathrooms was added in 1987.
